"Learning"     This is an original encaustic abstract painting. It is bright and beautiful with spring flowers popping out of a green meadow!     Encaustic is the medium which consists of molten beeswax, resin, and pigments that are fused after application into a continuous layer and fixed to a support (wood) with heat. This achieves a lustrous enamel appearance. The word 'encaustic' comes from the Greek and means to burn in, which refers to the process of fusing the paint. Encaustic paintings can be polished to a high gloss, molded, sculpted, textured and combined with collage materials. Encaustic is also the most durable of artist's paint and an excellent investment. This is due to the fact that beeswax is impervious to moisture. Because of this it will not deteriorate, it will not yellow, and it will not darken. Time's a Tickin'               This original mixed media piece symbolizes the passage of time in our lives. The round metal piece in the center represents the center of our lives. From there, at times, we spend so much time worrying about things that never come to pass. This is represented by the spirals and gears bursting from the center. The pieces of glass are glimpses of time we have wasted and can't get back. This was a good reminder for me to live in each present moment. Time is a gift we are given and it passes quickly. Fearless     If you’re like most people, you start out the year with the best intentions and make resolutions for the New Year.  It seems like by February, we feel like we have already slipped and by March or April, our best laid plans are past tense. Since our words give a voice to our soul, I decided that I would opt for a "word" this year instead of a resolution. I decided I would put my "word" into a piece of art, so "FEARLESS" was born! Blossom This is one of my first Mixed Media pieces titled "Blossom". This piece means alot to me - a whirlwind of emotions were poured in and and came out of this one! I didn't want her to be "realistic", but more "whimsical".  I had a great time creating her.  I used alot of different items to create texture and depth in this piece. Her hair is made out of twine. I glued each individual piece on and painted each strand. Her wings are made out of broken glass. At first, she had dark brown eyes, but they just didn't give the viewer the effect I wanted, so I glazed green iridescent paint over the brown. Her eyes change colors between green and brown, depending on the viewers angle. I used molding paste and painted various papers to add into the composition.     This is a painting I completed to donate to the Rottweiler Rescue. Their names are Chance and Tiller and they belonged to a very good friend of mine. When she saw the painting, she had to have it for herself. I have to be honest, when I first took on this challenge, I did not know if I could do Chance and Tiller justice. This is an original mixed media piece I created after going through alot of grieving, feelings of loss, and healing after the death of a dear friend. It is titled "Stages of the Heart". The first Heart is "Hopeful", in thinking about the beginning of a relationship and wondering what the future might hold. It is a red heart made of Tyvek and burlap, painted red. The second heart is "Broken", and represents what I was feeling about death and loss. It is a purple heart made of broken windsheild glass. It expresses alot of emotion. The third Heart is "Healing", signifying the healing that can happen after loss. It is made of some of the broken windsheild glass and bandages.
