"Peace Among the Trees"

This is my newest piece. It was created after learning about a dear friend who was recently diagnosed with a devastating form of cancer. Sometimes, after news like that, there are no words. There was and is so much emotion and so many stages of "grief" after getting the news. My friend is strong and courageous. Her roots are planted deep and she will fight this with all she has. She is walking through this battle with grace and fortitude. She is truly my hero and my inspiration.

This piece was created with may layers of painted papers, paints, and inks.

It was finished with a layer of beautiful, dreamy, encaustic wax.

Flying Free and Finding My Voice

Fly Free I have always been one of those people who is naturally shy. It may have a little to do with the way we were raised, we were always told that children "are to be seen and not heard". Growing up in that culture, I've always had trouble expressing what I'm feeling or saying what I wanted to say. Why would I have anything worth saying? She Decided to be Brave I haven't written in a while...sometimes I feel like I need to have something profound to say. So all of these thoughts came to me after having a lunch date with some friends. One of the friends I had lunch with is one of my dearest friends ever - you know the kind - she knows all your secrets and she still likes you! We've been friends for around 13 years now. The other two friends have been acquaintances for a number of years, but we are just now getting to know each other and beginning to get comfortable. At one point in the conversation, I could consciously feel myself beginning to get "guarded". There wasn't a specific reason for this, I'm not sure why this feeling came upon me.
